MEDIA ADVISORY: Stakeholders Convene for La Digue Energy Strategy Workshop and Launch of La Digue School Sustainability Project

Victoria, Seychelles – On Friday, November 6, key stakeholders in Seychelles' energy and climate change sector will convene for two events on La Digue to discuss the island's sustainable energy goals and strategy, the La Digue School's leadership in sustainable energy, and how these initiatives help promote the vision of La Digue as the Eco Capitol.

Partners include the Ministry of Environment, Energy, and Climate Change (MEECC), the Seychelles Energy Commission (SEC), UNDP-GEF, the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI), Indian Ocean Commission (IOC/COI), the European Union (EU), PUC, Sustainability for Seychelles (S4S), the SIDS Youth AIMS HUB (SYAH), and La Digue School.

In the morning, stakeholders will meet for a presentation and discussion on the draft La Digue Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy. This strategy, funded by the IOC and the European Union, focuses on identifying opportunities for renewable energy and energy generation on La Digue and facilitating stakeholder consensus and engagement around this strategy.

In the afternoon, partners in the La Digue School's sustainability project will meet to celebrate the school's progress towards becoming a fully sustainable school. La Digue School has been working with the SEC, CCI, UNDP-GEF, S4S, SYAH, and PUC to develop a whole school approach to sustainability, including renewable energy generation, resource efficiency, sustainable waste management, and environmental education. The afternoon will include a tour of the school's sustainability initiatives, remarks, a tree planting, and installation of the solar PV system.
