Plant Identification for Forest Rehabilitation
The GOS-UNDP-GEF Programme Coordination Unit in Seychelles is implementing an Adaptation Fund project Ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change in Seychelles (EBA project). The project aims to rehabilitate forest. The project will establish best practice and undertake training of local participants who will then be expected to take a role in the project.
Scope of Training
i) The course is mostly field based visiting some of the key botanical sites on Mahe
ii) Identification of field characteristics to identify plant main families
iii) Identification of common native and non native species
iv) Training in the use of main identification tools including online resources
v) The training will be lead by experts from the Plant Conservation Action Group
vi) A final assessment will evaluate the skills of the participants
Up to 20 Places are available.
The training will be during the period 18th July - 29th July (two weeks). The training will be on Mahe, at UniSey and various field sites. Transport to field sites from pre-arranged pickup points will be provided.
The training will end with an evaluation of the participants' skills. You'll be asked to identify a certain number of plant specimens, and to show that you have learned which tools are available and how to use them.
Applications are now invited from individuals who work or have an interest in natural resource management (either in Government, NGOs or as private contractors) who can demonstrate they will use the training in collaboration with project initiatives.
